Rarely Seen 1912 Riker & Hegeman Boston Red Sox Postcard (World Champions) w. Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Wood SGC 2. There not many known examples of the Riker & Hegeman baseball postcards from 1912 - we have found very few examples ever sold. It appears that they made one postcard for the NL champions and one postcard for the AL champions. Riker & Hegeman was an early 1900s drug store company. Hegeman & Co. was a very well known drug store in New York City throughout the 1800s and early 1900s. In 1910 the company merged to become Riker & Hegeman's. Just before the merger, Hegeman & Co. still had their main store at 203 Broadway, 19 branch stores (17 in NYC, 1 in Jersey City and 1 in Yonkers) and a warehouse at 66 W 132nd Street. Riker had 25 stores in the NYC vicinity and several in Boston. In 1916, Riker-Hegeman merged with the United Drug Company resulting in a company with 152 retail drug stores. So because of the NYC-Boston stores, it made sense to make to make postcards for the 1912 World Series to honor the NY and Boston teams. This lot includes the amazing Boston Red Sox team with some great HOFers! Only 2 of these have ever been graded per the SGC pop report. A very amazing and rare item!
