Beautiful BVG 6 EX-MT card of New York Giant Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson (Dark Cap) from the classic 1909-11 T206 tobacco series. Presented is an exceptional example of one of the most recognized cards in the hobby, featuring the very desirable Piedmont Factory 42 back. This is a stunning high grade example with vibrant colors and perfect registration. All four corners show only minor touches of wear with the lower left slightly softer than the other three, a slight top/bottom diamond cut does not take away from the overall eye appeal of this magnificent and iconic piece of cardboard. The obverse printing is strong and bold, making for a very clean and superior card overall. When you combine a Hall of Fame legend in high grade with a scarce back you have the making of a very desirable card. Mathewson was one of baseballs "First Five" inductees to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. The text on his Hall of Fame plaque sums up the legacy of "Big Six" quite simply and most appropriately by stating " Matty was master of them all."
